Egypt in 2026 is one of the most rewarding bucket-list trips an Indian can take — the Pyramids, the Sphinx, the temples of Luxor and Karnak, a Nile cruise, and the Red Sea coast all in a single 10-day trip. The e-visa is straightforward, direct EgyptAir flights run from Mumbai, and the country offers strong value compared to European destinations.

The 2026 e-visa walk-through

Indian travellers apply for an e-Visa online before arrival. There is also a visa on arrival option, but only for travellers entering via Cairo, Alexandria, Hurghada, Luxor or Sharm el-Sheikh airports who meet specific eligibility.

  • e-Visa portal: visa2egypt.gov.eg
  • Cost: US $25 (single-entry, 30 days) or US $60 (multiple-entry, 90 days)
  • Processing: 5–7 working days. Apply at least 2 weeks before travel.
  • Documents: Passport scan, recent photo, accommodation booking, return ticket. The portal accepts JPEG/PDF.

Visa on arrival is also available at major airports for US $25 paid in cash, but the online option avoids airport queues.

A 10-day Egypt itinerary

The Nile cruise — what to know

Standard cruises run between Aswan and Luxor (300 km) over 3 or 4 nights with daily excursions. Prices in 2026:

  • 3-star cruise: US $400–$700 per person all-inclusive for 4 nights
  • 4-star (Mövenpick, Sonesta): US $700–$1,200 per person
  • 5-star (Oberoi Zahra, Sanctuary Sun Boat): US $1,500–$3,500 per person

Book through a verified Egyptian operator or major travel platform — avoid dock-side touts. Felucca boats are different (open sail, day excursions only, much cheaper).

10-day budget — three tiers

Budget (₹85,000–₹1,15,000 per person)

One-stop flight (₹40,000) + 3-star hotels ₹2,500/night (₹17,500) + 3-star Nile cruise (₹35,000) + local food + Metro/Uber (₹10,000) + entries + Abu Simbel (₹10,000) + visa + SIM (₹4,000).

Things to know

  • Best months: October–April. Summer (May–September) hits 40°C+ at the temples — uncomfortable but cheaper.
  • Tipping (baksheesh) is expected almost everywhere — at temples, hotels, taxis. Carry small EGP notes.
  • Currency: Egyptian Pound (EGP). US dollars work at hotels and large restaurants; small places need EGP.
  • Dress modestly at religious sites — shoulders and knees covered for both men and women.
  • Bottled water only — tap water is not advisable.

The honest verdict

Egypt in 2026 still delivers — the Pyramids at Giza, the Nile cruise temples, and the new museum together justify the trip on their own. The visa is straightforward, the EgyptAir direct from Mumbai cuts the journey time, and a mid-range 10-day trip lands at a price comparable to a European city break. Plan around the cruise booking first, then build the rest of the days around it.

Egypt insider tips most blogs skip

The Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM) finally opened fully in 2025 — adult ticket is around ₹2,400, includes the Tutankhamun gallery which previously sold out months ahead. Skip the Cairo Egyptian Museum (now half-empty after most artefacts moved to GEM). The Sahara Sky Hotel just outside Cairo offers free pickup from airport — saves ₹2,500 taxi cost. Felucca sunset cruise on the Nile (Aswan) at ₹600 per person beats the ₹4,500 dinner cruise on every score.

Vegetarian Egypt hacks

Egyptian food is unexpectedly veg-friendly. Koshary (the national dish) is fully vegetarian — Koshary Abou Tarek in Cairo is the gold standard at ₹150. Foul (mashed fava beans) and ta’meya (Egyptian falafel) are widely available street foods. The Indian restaurant scene is minimal in most cities but Maharani Indian Restaurant in Sharm El Sheikh and Cairo’s Café 65 by Khaled bin El Walid have decent thalis at ₹800.
