so i finally went to georgia and honestly?

i had been hearing about georgia for years. friends who went came back with that look in their eyes. you know the one. the look that says “i experienced something you cant understand until you go yourself.” and i used to roll my eyes at that. like bro its a country not a spiritual awakening. but then i went. and now i am that annoying person. sorry not sorry.

georgia is wild in the best way. its not just one thing. its the food that makes you question why you ever ate anywhere else. its the wine that flows like water. its the mountains that look like they were designed by someone on acid. and the people. man the people. they will invite you into their home for dinner like its the most normal thing in the world.

getting there was an adventure

i flew into tbilisi through a cheap connecting flight. cost me around rs 25000 round trip which is not bad for a country thats basically a underrated spot in the caucasus. the airport is small and getting through immigration took like 10 minutes. the guy stamped my passport and said “welcome to georgia” with a smile. that set the tone for the whole trip.

tbilisi is beautiful af. the old town with its crooked balconies and winding streets. the sulfur baths in abanotubani. the bridge of peace glowing at night. i spent three days just walk arounding. eating khachapuri from random bakeries. drinking wine that cost less than water. sitting in cable cars watching the city from above.

the mountains stole my heart

kazbegi. if you take one trip from tbilisi make it this one. the drive through the georgian military highway is one of the most scenic roads i have ever been on. the mountains keep getting bigger and bigger until you reach stepantsminda and see gergeti trinity church sitting on a hill with mount kazbek in the background. i sat there for an hour just staring. no phone. no music. just the wind and the view.

wine culture in georgia is something else. they have been making wine for 8000 years in clay pots called qvevri. the wine is natural and funky and unlike anything you have tasted. i went to kakheti region and did a wine tour. visited family run wineries where the grandpa made wine in his backyard. cost like rs 500 for tasting multiple wines. best money i spent on the trip.

what it actually costs

georgia is cheap. like really cheap. a meal at a decent restaurant costs rs 300-500. khachapuri is like rs 100. metro in tbilisi is rs 15. a nice hotel room rs 1500-2000 per night. i spent around rs 30000-35000 for 7 days including everything. flight was the biggest expense. once you are there your money goes a long way.

the food is really good. khinkali (dumplings) that you have to eat carefully because the soup inside is boiling hot. khachapuri adjaruli (bread boat with egg and cheese). shkmeruli (chicken in garlic sauce). and the wine. the wine is so good that i brought back three bottles. they survived the flight. barely.

would i go back?

in a heartbeat. georgia is one of those rare places that feels both exotic and familiar. the people are warm. the nature is stunning. the food and wine are world class. and its affordable enough that you don’t have to be rich to experience it. if you are looking for a destination that offers mountains, history, amazing food, and genuine hospitality just go. stop thinking. book the ticket. seriously.
