๐ŸŒธ Significance of Karva Chauth

Karva Chauth is a sacred festival for married Hindu women, observed on the fourth day of Krishna Paksha in Kartik month. ๐Ÿ•‰ Mythological Story of Karva Chauth

The Story of Veeravati

A princess named Veeravati once observed her first Karva Chauth. Weak from fasting, she was tricked by her brothers into believing the moon had risen. Breaking her fast early, she soon received news of her husbandโ€™s death. Distraught, she prayed to Goddess Parvati, who blessed her and advised her to observe the fast again with devotion. The next year, Veeravatiโ€™s husband was revived. Since then, Karva Chauth became a powerful fast observed by married women.

๐Ÿช” How Karva Chauth is Observed

Morning Ritual โ€“ Sargi

  • Pre-dawn meal prepared by the mother-in-law
  • Includes fruits, sweets, paratha, dry fruits, and milk
  • Women eat before sunrise, then begin nirjala fast (no food or water)

Daylong Fast

Women stay without food and water, dress up in traditional attire, apply mehendi, and prepare their puja thali.

Evening Puja

  • Karva (clay pot) is decorated and filled with water
  • Women gather to listen to Karva Chauth Katha
  • Aarti is performed and the Karva is passed in a circle among women
