Complete 9-Day Navratri Puja Guide

Celebrate Navratri with devotion! This detailed guide explains what to do on each of the nine days, which Goddess to worship, which color to wear, mantras to chant, and food offerings to prepare.

Preparation Before Navratri

Clean your house and puja area. Collect all items like Kalash, coconut, mango leaves, red cloth, diya, ghee, flowers, fruits, rice, roli, and devotional books before starting.

Day 1 – Shailputri

Color: Yellow | Mantra: Om Devi Shailputryai Namah

Perform Kalash Sthapana, offer ghee as bhog and pray for strength and stability.

Day 2 – Brahmacharini

Color: Green | Mantra: Om Devi Brahmacharinyai Namah

Offer sugar or fruits, light ghee diya and meditate for wisdom and peace.

Day 3 – Chandraghanta

Color: Grey | Mantra: Om Devi Chandraghantayai Namah

Offer kheer and ring a bell during aarti to remove negativity and fear.

Day 4 – Kushmanda

Color: Orange | Mantra: Om Devi Kushmandayai Namah

Offer Malpua or pumpkin dishes, decorate idol with bright flowers for prosperity.

Day 5 – Skandmata

Color: White | Mantra: Om Devi Skandmatayai Namah

Offer banana and milk sweets, pray for good health and happiness of children.

Day 6 – Katyayani

Color: Red | Mantra: Om Devi Katyayanyai Namah

Offer honey, chant Durga Saptashati for courage and marital happiness.

Day 7 – Kalaratri

Color: Royal Blue | Mantra: Om Devi Kalaratryai Namah

Offer jaggery, meditate at night and seek divine protection from negativity.

Day 8 – Mahagauri

Color: Pink | Mantra: Om Devi Mahagauryai Namah

Perform Kanya Pujan, offer coconut and halwa-puri, seek forgiveness and blessings.

Day 9 – Siddhidatri

Color: Purple | Mantra: Om Devi Siddhidatryai Namah

Offer sesame sweets, perform grand aarti and chant Navarna Mantra 108 times.

Additional Tips

  • Keep Akhand Jyot (continuous diya) throughout Navratri if possible.
  • Follow Satvik lifestyle and avoid negative thoughts.
  • Donate food or clothes on the last day for blessings.
